9/26 - Places Journal / Design Observer

Landscape Photography: New Visions, Part 5

To my opinion, the eye catching article that spoke to me the most would have to be Landscape Photography. It was both the compelling images and the idea it gave me through its title, new visions.
I am an outdoors person so that was very exciting to read about integrating both urban space with nature. The article talks about three photographers who emphasize on this idea and gives us a little insight on their work in the installation. This is much like something I would like to involve in my work as well because even though they are beautiful photographs, it shows us how nature reacts to humans interaction to land. It most definitely is something i would continue reading about, considering the Photographers and their thoughts upon their photographs.

9/19 Conscientious

Kansas Film Commission Photographs

Going through the Conscientious website, i came upon this photograph of the very well placed pictures that fell upon one another, giving the viewer a much expanded insight on the two small Kansas town views. The article is basically just the two small town's picture that include details on the purpose of them which was to be sent to film companies to promote those Kansas locations. The creativity of the pictures set up to give a wider view is a great idea to expand the viewers eyes of Kansas. I would love to see some more and would be interested if I were a movie director.

9/12 The New York Times

The Lion, the Artist and the Studio

http://www.nytimes.com/pages/arts/design/index.html

While scrolling through the articles, i seemed to have stumbled to this interesting title which compelled me to clicked. It simply caused me to stop and wonder just what is was about so i clicked with high curiosity. Reading through, the article was talking about this famous 72 year old watercolor artist, Jerry Pinkney, which is well known for his children book illustrations including "The Lion and the Mouse". Well as the article continues, it goes on talking about the studio Americo and Gabriel D’Adonna made for him, which has encourage more of Mr. Pinkney's art from his 75 acres of wilderness surrounding his house as well as artwork not seen by many that he might enjoy more. Other than being such a recognized artist and winning many of esteemed awards, it posts that he will be showing most of his prestige work including some many people have not thought of him to have done that strays of the theme of wildlife and animals, but humans. The article also mentions a brief history of how he was recognized as an artist by John Liney and, even though he had dyslexia, grew to become the astounding illustrator with his mother as encouraging like 'the wind to his back'. I became very fascinated in reading more of his life but more interested now in his exhibition that will be showing at the Hudson River Museum.
Everyone will be able to see “Witness: The Art of Jerry Pinkney” which will be on view at the Hudson River Museum in Yonker Sept. 29 through Jan. 13.
