10/31 - Conscientious

Review: Esther Kroon

Throughout all of the Conscientious articles in their website, this  one seemed to stand out to me the most with a photograph of two children from a ground perspective. This image was quite interesting because of the creative way it portrayed a black and white portrait of two brothers in the neighborhood. I never heard of this Photographer, but when i read the article and viewed more of her images, i was astounded by her work and thought to myself of how cool it would be to try and capture something or someone the same way. She never seemed to have the chance to be recognized because of her unfortunate death at the age 25 in guatemala, and until 20 years, we can finally give her the recognition she deserves. The article describes how difficult could be to capture photographs of children which Kroon seems to truly capture great portraits unlike any other and it tells us about the book dedicated to her work, which now, her work can be appreciated the way it should be. This is a book that should be picked up by Photographers focusing on this type of subject or any for that matter.
